ENGLISH & MATH 


This 1st-6th grade Academic Enrichment Program cultivates students' Math and English skills and helps maintain practical skills that are useful for school.

Reading with Vocabulary 
The objective of the class is to prepare students for what they are going to learn in school by enriching their knowledge of vocabulary and reading skills. Every class starts off with a vocabulary quiz, and students work on passages that use the vocabulary in each unit.

Book Reading & Writing with Grammar 
Constant reading improves students' reading comprehension and develops good reading habits. The class includes reading at least one book per week, taking a reading quiz, and writing a book report. Students are first given a reading diagnostic test to determine their reading level. According to the reading level, students will receive a list of books that will enhance their reading and comprehension skills.

School Math Concept 
Students will learn basic math concepts and preview material that they will learn in school. After learning a concept, they will have practice questions to review those skills.

Math Problem Solving 
After learning basic concepts, students will improve their mathematical skills with repetitive exercises consisting of word problems, SOL problems, and math competitions problems.

Grades 3-6 GT English & Math Program

Students will first master Pre-Algebra and Geometry through various practice problems. Then they will be prepared for the IOWA Algebra Aptitude Test which is taken in the 6th grade. Furthermore, students will improve their vocabulary and reading comprehension through high intensity classes to advance the student in their academics.

Class placement is not based on grade, but on the student's ability in English and Math. The class is composed of original, creative lessons that students can enjoy while learning to think outside the box. This program prepares students for the CTY Camp test, 6th grade Algebra 1 test (IOWA-Algebra Aptitude Test), and TJ test.

GT English - Vocabulary:
Our GT English class is intended for 3-6th grade students that are already taking GT English class or exceeding in regular English class. The class focuses on enriching reading comprehension and vocabulary skills.

GT Math - Problem Solving:
Many students can manage simple problems that require memorization of mathematical equations, but have trouble with problems that require a deeper understanding and application of the equations. This class will help students, especially those who plan to study in fields of science and engineering, by giving them confidence in solving applied problems. Class intended for 3-6th grade students.

Creative Writing

All too often, children are put off by Creative Writing by feeling they have to do it right.  Best Academy's Creative Writing class challenges students to think critically and creatively. We want to help students enjoy writing their own stories while teaching important writing skills.  Many institutions, including TJHSS, look for candidates who can skillfully express and translate their thoughts into words. Taught by one of Best Academy’s top English teachers, Miss  Elizabeth Menard, this creative writing class will absolutely change your student's perspective of writing!
